Needs To Have More Tolerance for Children

Visitor Review
Went to this hotel in october 2003 with my family. We reserved 4 rooms, three of which were there large efficiencies. Rooms were very nice, hotel was very clean. We went to this hotel as a family after our dad died in august. We felt we needed to get away and try and have a good time. We had about 6 kids with us. Our kids seemed to keep getting "singled out" by the front desk. It seems that there cameras kept catching them running down the halls, which must be a crime in this hotel. Also, there was a complaint from a guest who made it know she stayed there for 20 years, and was always at the front desk laughing and talking to the staff. They seemed to want to make her happy so kept harassing us about our kids in the hallways. Meantime while going up to other floors, we saw kids running and doing more in the hallways, but the cameras never seemed to catch them (there wasn't a guest complaining ) we spent alot of money here and come down to jersey every year with a large group, but did not like the management and do not know if we would stay again. Wildwood is for kids,if you do not want to hear there noise go someplace else. Maybe the management should realize this also.

Objective Review Port Royal Hotel
By Anonymous on Monday, June 12, 2006

Visitor Review
I am 38 years old and have been going to the port royal since i was about 10. I have also stayed at el coronado, pan am and bal harbor. I will give you some objective thoughts on the port royal. First of all, one of the last posters was "upset" her kids were being singled out for running in the halls. How about becoming a real parent and not let them run in the halls. The port royal has some weaknesses but its hard to take anyone's views seriously when they obviously have no idea how their kids should conduct themselves. The place is 90% booked every year with family with kids so i am pretty sure the port royal is not exactly looking to give families with kids a hard time. Kids are screaming and yelling and splashing in the pool.....that to me is acceptable within reason...you are outside and playing......when you are in the actual hotel...i dont know...call me crazy....but maybe you can tell your kids that their is a difference between having fun in a public area and disturbing other people who may be on their only vacation of the year and sleeping or napping or enjoying some quiet time in their rooms.

Let me just say that this port royal hotel was in wildwood crest, not north wildwood as the tripadvisor has it on here. First, this was the first time we were staying at this hotel. We just stayed here from august 5-7 and let me tell you, this hotel was fabulous and clean!!!! We stayed in room 302 and we will now be coming back here in the future!

About The Best In Wildwood Crest
By Anonymous on Monday, June 12, 2006

Visitor Review
My family visits wildwood crest or cape may at least once a year. For the wildwood area, the port royal is one of the better hotels. Even better than some of the motels in cape may. For our last stay our room was the large efficiency apartment. More than enough space for 2 adults and 2 children. 3 televisions, full size refrigerator, huge closet space. Always clean, and decently decorated. The pool is large and there are plenty of chairs in the surrounding pool area. I would like to see the fake palm trees removed. The lobby is large, neat, and well maintained. Decent game room and gift shop. Restaurant is great for breakfast. I like that the port royal is alone. Open lots are on each side of the hotel. The port royal is also one the more expensive places in the wildwood area. September is also a great time to go. Rates decrease considerably.

Another Great Stay At The Port Royal

Stay here every year. Would not stay anywhere else in wildwood crest. You are literally a 10 min walk from the boardwalk and its easy to drive and cheap to park if you arent in that walking mood (lots of meters, relatively cheap parking lots). Empty lot on each side of the hotel....very open feeling no other beachfront hotel can give you. Rooms are totally fine, service fine, front desk helpful when needed.....restaurants galore from very cheap to exp. All within 5-20 min in wildwood crest, wildwood, north wildwood and of course cape may. Great pool (heated), nice baby pool, plenty of lounge chairs and of course the beach is a given...biggest anywhere. I can't imagine a better hotel if you are staying in the wildwoods!! Greg.

Fantastic Stay At The Port Royal

We (myself, age 47, wife, 38 and 2 girls, ages 3 and 4) just returned from wildwood yesterday, and let me say that the port royal will be our place to stay for future visits. First off, we visited in the "off season". Rates are much lower. Secondly, we stayed in a room that was "just rennovated". With that in mind...i'll continue.

Port Royal - Now Our Regular Hotel
By Anonymous on Monday, June 12, 2006

Visitor Review
After staying in many, many dumps over the years, i had almost given up on the wildwoods - until i discovered the port royal. As far as i'm concerned, there's nothing else that even comes close. A little more expensive than the rest, but well worth it! Anyone who rates this hotel less than above average is a competitor trying to divert business away from this fine hotel. Exceptionally clean rooms, clean and well-lit hallways, friendly and helpful staff, excellent resturant, and clean pool are just the beginning. I washed a load of clothes in the complimentary laundry room and went to the pool. When i came back, someone in housekeeping had dried and folded our clothes for us! What more could you ask for!? Only one complaint - the rooms are non-smoking, but the balconies apparantly are not. Kinda hard to relax on the balcony when the guy next door is outside smoking a rope. But taking everything else into consideration, this will be our summer destination from now on.

Not A Bad Place!

My husband and I usually stay at a family owned resort in north wildwood. In 2004 we decided lets try something new. We enjoyed our stay. We had a great view of the ocean, and didn't encounter a single problem during our stay. The only thing I wasn't used to is that its a bit of a walk to the boardwalk, but thats not the hotel's fault! It was nice to actually stay a little away from the excitement and was more peaceful in wildwood crest. The dining room gets a little crowded, but the staff was very friendly. I would stay there again for sure!

Port Royal Restaurant

I have to say that the restaurant at the port royal is excellent. We now stay at seapointe village owned by the same people as the port royal. Seapointe village are really nice condos towards the end of ww crest. The prices are expensive but after staying in the ocean holiday, jolly roger, the compass, and a few others they all have bad shag carpets small dinky bath towels and they are all overpriced. If you travel anywhere else (like south carolina) these hotels would be out of business. The port royal hotel is very nice my family stays here and they love it. We always meet up with them for breakfast in the restaurant--my fav. Is the eggs benedict! The gift shop is great kids love it-- a fun game room too! The lobby is very clean and up to date--no shag rugs here! The beach at wildwood crest is so nice and you will enjoy your stay here--if you want to stay in a complex with 3 fun pools one with a tile slide, kiddie pool with a fountain, rockwall/fountain pool- activities for your children, parents night out babysitting available pizza for the kids and a movie, tennis courts, kids camp mon-fri. For two hours or so, playground, beautiful grounds, snack bar/deli hut on the beach , outdoor bbq grills for guests(clean), staff always cleaning the grounds well anyway i could go on and on but check out seapointe village. Hate to give away my secret but i will! Reservations have to be made in advance usually for week only rentals. If you cant stay at seapointe village the only other place to stay at is the port royal. They are knocking down some old run down hotels and building new properties so hopefully in the future the old hotels will have to update their rooms one day! Enjoy wildwood it is fun at the right hotel!

Port Royal - The Best!
By Glen Rock on Thursday, June 08, 2006

Visitor Review
Our extended family (17 in total) have been staying at the port royal in early july for the past 5 years. It is absolutely the best!! From the well appointed, newly furnished rooms, to the large heated pool and spacious deck area to the first-class restaurant - all top notch. The staff is caring and friendly and we have gotten to know a number of them the past few years. The maid service is considerate and thorough. They have a nice game room and planned activities for the kids. It is a mile walk to the boardwalk, but it is nice to be away from the noise and crowds there. The entire facility is clean-clean-clean. The kids count the days 'til we return every year. No place we'd rather stay. Its become a family tradition.
