"Port-o-Call Hotel great location"
By Anonymous on Wednesday, May 19, 2010

Visitor Review
This hotel is right on the Jersey Shore and a five minute walk to the boardwalk and the beach. I had a room with a balcony that overlooked the ocean. I could hear the ocean all night long which was fantastic. Even in the off-season, you pay a hefty price for the location. I have certainly had much more luxurious accommodations for less money but overall I would recommend Port-O-Call for great off-season getaway.

"Location does it for Port-o-call"

You cant ask for a better Location if you are going to Ocean City, NJ. They dont deserve rave reviews by any means...but it does the trick. I cant really comment on their service as this stay was just for a night to go to a wedding in the area. Not the cleanest of places or up to date, but I think they thrive on their location and figure they can get by without spending any more $$!

Having been an owner in ocean city we sold our property last year therefore when we decide to try to stay for a few night we chose the port o call hotel. We were not dissapointed in fact we felt like we were in a luxury hotel. The room was wonderful, the service was wonderful, and the food was great. I recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to go to ocean city and have the best vacaction they can.

Excellent Hotel and Service

My family and I stayed at the port-o-call hotel this past summer (2003) at my parents suggestion (the only place they stay when down the shore). The room was exceptionally clean with plenty of space and a great view. The staff and the manager were so incredibly friendly! My children (6 and 3) enjoyed the pool and the unique "peanut butter and jelly" room. This was great since it gave my husband and I some time to enjoy our meal! We also didn't have to worry about the noise and distraction that our children sometimes generate!!! We highly recommend this hotel and can't wait to go back!

Wonderful Getaway Weekend
By Anonymous on Thursday, June 15, 2006

We stayed at the port o call this past weekend and we had a terriffic time. When we arrived at 2:30 in the afternoon, we were greeted with lemonade before even entering the building. When we went to check in, we were a little early for the check in time, but they told us our room was ready. When we got to our room we were pleased. We are very picky about our accomodations, and the room was very clean and large and we had a balcony that looked out to the ocean. Very relaxing ! The only thing I can complain about is the restaurant. The food was good, but the kitchen was very slow and the wait staff seemed very inexperienced. Overall we had a great stay.

Nice Getaway

We stayed for a weekend here, with a toddler in tow, and had a nice getaway. The rooms are spacious and clean. It was nice to have a mini-fridge and coffee maker. It's great to be right on the beach and boardwalk (although far enough away from the foot traffic) and not have to cross streets. Parking was tight, but it was convenient and cheap. We had a city view room on the 7th floor, which was lovely, but we saw an ocean view room, and the view was even better. Would definitely go back!

This is truly the only place to stay in ocean city. The rooms are large and they have everything that you could need from a coffee maker to an iron, to a mini fridge. The staff there is so friendly it?s unbelievable. Everyone refers to you by name, and if there was anything that you needed done, consider it done 10 minutes ago, no matter what. Great balcony?s and great views. This is a top notch high class place folks. I wouldn?t even for 1 minute consider any other place in ocean city ever!mike.

Love it, the staff was really great, they bring your kids oreos and juice boxes every night.. They have a great kid cafe with many tv screens and video games, so you dont have to worry about making noise or disturbing any one.. The only downfall was that you cannot get anything but one big room.. I prefer to have the kids separate.

A Dream for Parents
By Anonymous on Thursday, June 15, 2006

Visitor Review
What an outstanding place. I highly recommend port o call for parents. From the moment you arrive, your treated like royalty, the kids are given ice pops and/or juice. The room is luxurious. The pool is always 85 degrees. And the best part of all is the restaurant section for families. There's various tv's playing disney movies, cartoons, game boys etc. The food is also very good. In addition, your treated in the early eveing to cookies, juice, and mints. If you choose to stay later than 11a.m check-out time, there are rooms in the lower loby where you can shower and change before leaving. The atmosphere is family friendlyand the people are soo nice. Well worth the money. The only bad part is trying to get the kids to leave. I'm looking forward to returning in august.

Loved It... We'Ll Be Back
By Anonymous on Thursday, June 15, 2006

We just returned from a five-night stay at the Port O Call, and it was a wonderful experience. It starts with a greeter at the door who sets the tone by welcoming you with a beverage or ice pop. He gives you the overview information and is generous with advice throughout the stay. The room was a good size with nice amenities perfectly suited for a family vacation. The location is fantastic in that it is on the boardwalk and a few short blocks from the heart of the action. Even though we had noisy neighbors who insisted on yelling on yelling at their two kids all day, it didn't dampen the friendly, relaxed atmosphere of the hotel. The staff was great, the service was great… in short, the Port O Call is a gem. We'll be back next year.

Surprisingly, Not That Great......

We stayed at the port o call it was ok. As a child I always looked at this hotel and dreamed of staying there. The reality did not meet the dream. The balcony was actually scary as it was very high but very small felt like I could tip right over and down!, also the walls are paper thin so if you have rude neighbors and in this world that is almost a certainty. We had neighbors int he next room who got up at 5:30 am and thought nothing of having a party laughing, talking loud that it woke me up and I felt I was right in the conversation with them. So once again the reality does not liveup to the dream.

Perfect Vacation
By Anonymous on Thursday, June 15, 2006

We just spent a perfect vacation at the port o call. The room was exceptionally clean and comfortable; the bed linen of finest quality; room service far above average; the balcony perfect for two to enjoy the view of the ocean, swimming pool, and boardwalk. The quality of the food and service in the restaurant had improved since our last visit.

Excellant Hotel ******

Spent oct. 1-3 at the port-o-call hotel for my wedding anniversary. Both my wife and I greatly enjoyed the hotel (my wife had stayed here as a child). Everything was done the way it should be done -- right down to real creamers in the tiny refrigerator in the room to use with the complimentary coffee machine. Nothing like getting 2 newspapers outside the room when you wake up and sitting on a balcony with coffee, newspaper, and the ocean. Well done!

Just came back from a 4 night stay at the port-o-call with my wife and 2 children ages 2 and 4. The staff at this hotel was outstanding. After a minor incident with our room we were quickly moved to a different room and from managment to housekeeping, maintnance, hotel staff everyone went out of their way to first take care of our situation and then to be sure the rest of our stay was perfect. (thank you glen ) although the rooms were a little dated ( bathrooms were perfect ) this is truley a great family hotel. As far as were concerned this is the only choice in a area that dosent seem to have many nice hotels. This was our first visit to ocean city we usually go to oc maryland were there are many hotel choices. The grounds and lobby area of this hotel our perfect and the housekeeping is the best iv ever seen( we travel 5 to 6 times a year) thank you for the candy on our pillows, my daughter still cant stop talking abou it. We would highly recomend staying in this hotel if visiting oc,nj.

We had a 4 night stay june 6-10 / summer splash package at $320 per person. It was myself, husband and 2 1/2 year old son. Had a wonderful time. Only complaint was they took 3 of our pillow cases in 2 separate instances but we always got them back promptly after i called to let them know. We had a full breakfast included with the package. The food was very good and we had plenty to feed our son so we didn't pay for breakfast all week. We booked an oceanfront room with 2 double beds on 8th floor. View was wonderful and balcony was wonderful. The maid service came twice a day which was great. In the evening they leave chocolate on pillow (if you aren't there) or they knock on door and offer new towels (and removal of old ones), chocolates and cookies for the kids. Rooms were nice and clean. The added touches like cold creamers in the fridge made our stay very pleasant. We plan on returning for the package special in october for our 10th anniversary. Btw, the location is wonderful. On the boardwalk just down from the start of the stores/restaurants so you don't have the huge crowds and noise but are still steps from it all.

Great Place To Stay
By Anonymous on Thursday, June 15, 2006

Visitor Review
As i sit here reading reviews on other hotels, booking my summer 2006 vacation, i realize how helpful it is to post ones experiences at a specific establishment. If your someone like me whom obsesses over finding a nice place to stay, going on the blind, basically depending on whatever pics/ info the hotel site has to offer, this is definitly a great hotel. The cleaning people came twice a day, once in the morning to change the beddings, and replace towels, and again in the early evening, to replace towels again,(and left a little treat for the little one) which was ideal if you spend the day at the beach or pool, which are both just footsteps away. The location to the boardwalk was ideal as well. We came out of our room, went down 3 floors on the elevator, and just a few hundred feet to the boardwalk. It took maybe a minute at most to walk to the excitement and action on the boardwalk, but yet far enough away, not to be disturbed by the crowds or noise in the evening, being that our night ended at around 9pm, when my son was ready to sleep . I was actually disappointed to have to go in, being that there was just so much to take in on the boardwalk. Also, a stroll to the other side of the boardwalk(opposite the stores/game rooms) is also really nice, if your just looking to take a peaceful quiet stroll and still take in the sun and listen to the ocean. I took my son for his nap in that direction every day...about an hour each day..and it was just so beautiful. To rap it up, great location, great room, great view and overall 100% satisfaction, and i am an exremely picky person. If i ever return to ocean city i will not even consider staying anyplace other then the port o call.

Great Place for Retreat!
By Anonymous on Thursday, June 15, 2006

My husband and I went here for a couples retreat from a wednesday through saturday. What a wonderful place for a retreat! Not only are the actual hotel rooms very nice and recently redone but the large meeting room was very nice and spacious. We had a buffet breakfast each morning which was also very good. If you are looking for a place to have a church retreat (or any other kind) at the shore, this is a great place to have it!

Great Location, Rude Desk Staff, Helpful Bellhops, Terrible Food, Dated Rooms
By Anonymous on Thursday, June 15, 2006

Visitor Review
Will never stay here again. Poc made a huge reservation mistake and then were rude to us about it. We were told when booking our reservation that there was a 3-night minimum for memorial day weekend. Originally, we wanted to stay only saturday and sunday nights. However, given what we were told, we booked friday, saturday, and sunday nights. You can imagine our surprise then, when after a short outing sunday morning, we returned to find that none of our stuff was in our room. As it turned out, they had us staying only 2 nights (despite the purported 3-night-minimum rule), and had packed our stuff up (including our valuables) for us. We spent the next hour going through our numerous bags making sure everything was there (it wasn't). This all could have been prevented if they had an online reservation system. Then, there wouldn't be such a great possibility for human error (on their end, at least). Also, while the location is probably the best of any hotel in oc (right on the boardwalk/beach), the food was the worst i've ever had anywhere (it really was inedible), and our room, while spacious, was extremely dated (think '70s). In addition, they don't air condition the hallways, which were very hot and stuffy. Given there are only two elevators for nine floors, you will spend a lot of time in these hot and stuffy hallways.
