Campgrounds at the New Jersey Shore

There are lots of opportunities for camping at the New Jersey Shore -- and all throughout the Garden State.

If this is your first time camping (or your fifth, or fiftieth) here are some handy tips to remember:

• Stick to designated roads and trails so you don't get lost.
• Be considerate of others on the roads, on the trails, and in the campgrounds.
• Keep noise to a minimum, especially in the early morning and at night.
• Be considerate of privacy -- keep your distance from other campers and try not to walk right through somebody's campsite.
• Check weather forecasts and plan accordingly!
• Carry a compass and/or a GPS (global positioning system) and know how to use it.
• Avoid sensitive areas where wildlife may be residing and nesting.

The golden rule of camping is to leave the area better than it was when you found it. That includes disposing of waste, avoiding the spread of invasive species, and minimizing the use of fire (a camp stove has far less impact on the area than an actual fire). Bring out what you bring into the campsite, and make the world a better place by picking up any litter you find.
