We Loved The Periwinkle

We stayed at the periwinkle for 4 days last june. I immediately rebooked again for 2005. I work for a travel company so when I travel with my family I am very picky about my where we stay.

Not To Nice

We stayed for two nights. The location is great, and the pool is nice. The rooms were very small. I felt like I was in a doll house. We had a two room suite. The bedroom was so tight you could not even use the dresser. We had to get in and out of bed one at a time. The room was clean, but old looking. The kitchen and wood work looked cheap and shabby. The room did not even have cable tv (or it wasn't working) we paid $304/night and I felt ripped off. I would never go back.

Mercenary

We've been up and down the jersey shore, stayed in many places in many towns, as well as several cape may locations. The periwinkle is no different than most. What turned me sour on the place was that we (family) each rented a room for three nights (the "policy", i was told) for a total of 3 rooms costing about $2100.00. We also rented an additional room for one night (guess the "policy" isn't written in stone) for the standard rate plus an additional $40.00 since they were going against the "policy". The fourth room was for my brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Unfortunately, 72 hours before my brother-in-law's arrival, his mother died and of course he was not going to be able to keep his reservation. Here's what we were told: the reservation must be cancelled at least 21 days before arrival, so no refund; we offered to provide proof of the death, which we did (death notice, obituary, death certificate). Even with the proof we might not get a refund because of the policy. Even if they were to grant us a refund, it would still be subject to the 25% service charge.

Ok But Nothing Great

Just came back from a four day stay at the periwinkle inn. This is the second time this summer we stayed there. The first time was july 4th weekend. The rooms are basic motel rooms and are small. I could deal with small rooms. The rooms are dirty. There was food under the beds. The carpeting is really old and probably could use a good cleaning. The motel itself has a great outdoor area for the kids. The sandbox and shuffleboard area is perfect for families. However, next year I won't be staying there.

Charming Jersey Shore Hotel

We recently spent 4 days at the periwinkle. The room was not extravagant, but it was clean and a good value for the price. We had a beautiful view of the ocean from our balcony. The pool is quite charming and a bit more private than other hotel pools in the area, but the water temperature was much too cold. The ocean was warmer. The grounds are lovely - nicely landscaped with a goldfish pond. Our room had a refrigerator which helped us to save on some of the overpriced restaurant food in cape may. The periwinkle is a great place for a family vacation.
