"Centrally Located"

Hotel has an excellent location. The front desk person was a little rude but the service staff were warm and friendly. Across the street is the beach. They have a nice poolside and an outdoor bar located right next to the pool. The hotel is within walking distance to nearly everything. The main shopping area is four blocks away. Beautiful bed and breakfast houses surround the area. A good hotel but a little pricey for the value.

The hotel itself is ok but certainly overpriced for the services they provide. Location is good but the attitude of front desk is pretty poor.

"Great Off Season"
By Anonymous on Thursday, April 16, 2009

Visitor Review
I don't understand the negative reviews. The suite I stayed in was a bargain, even for off season! Prices may seem steep for peak season, but aren't they all on the shore in July - August. The room was very clean, the bathroom spotless with plenty of towels and other supplies. The staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. I will stay there again.

"The nastiest staff"
By Anonymous on Thursday, March 26, 2009

Visitor Review
My family and I stayed at this hotel for the weekend and I have to say it was the most uncomfortable stay. The staff was extremely unprofessional and rude. When you are paying to stay at a hotel you at least expect the staff to be pleasant. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and we will keep as far away from it when booking our next trip.

"great room and location for the money"

I was very happy to have spent my time at this hotel for my first stay at cape may,,,Even though it was the off season (March 20-22)the hotel staff was wonderful, the room was very clean and the area had everything you needed..it is centrally located and the beach is right across the street..even though food was not available at the hotel, within a few short blocks, you can walk to get breakfast, lunch and dinner....I would definetly reccommend this hotel and that you book it with hotels.com because the savings are substantial as opposed to calling the htoel on your own…

"Do not stay at this hotel"

It isn't even a two star hotel bathrooms a so small turning around is an issue no heat in bathrooms no exhast fans, carpets are dirty, rooms are small just very over priced for what you get. Management don't care just what your money, spend it elsewhere. This an old outdated place with no old charm or appeal.

"Needs Improvement"
By Anonymous on Thursday, March 12, 2009

Visitor Review
The hotel was to expensive for this time of year. There was no convinient place to get food. The hotel resturant was closed for the winter. There was a film on the tile in the rooms in which we had slipped on many times. The beds were not comfortable and the pilows were old and lumpy. The hotel staff was not friendly and when we left a day early from our stay because of the multiple slips they did not even ask if there was anything they could do for us

"Just Satisfactory"
By Anonymous on Tuesday, October 21, 2008

Positive:The hotel is in a great location, just across the street from a nice beach. Breakfast was great - huge selection and good quality. Improvement areas: Staff is VERY unfriendly and extremely unhelpful. From the front desk, to the restaurant staff - they all seemed as if they really wanted to be somewhere else. The only friendly person was the parking lot attendant and one of the waiters. Strngely enough, the other guests were not very friendly either. Also, not very kid friendly. For the ridiculous price I paid, I rather go somewhere else.

"Many positives, one major problem"
By Anonymous on Friday, October 10, 2008

Visitor Review
This was our first stay at the Marquis De Lafayette. We travel often to the NJ shore to visit family. We chose the Marquis De Lafayette because it is one of the few better-quality hotels in Cape May County where you can rent a suite-style room (very helpful when traveling with a 4-year-old who goes to bed at 8 p.m.). The room was clean and in good condition, although it was a bit small. The breakfast buffet (included in our rental rate) was good, and the breakfast servers were especially friendly and attentive (particularly Ioan). The hotel's location on the beachfront turned out to be a huge advantage, since the mild October weather allowed us to go for a number of barefoot walks on the beach. My only major complaint is that on the Saturday night of our stay, we were awoken repeatedly until 1:30 a.m. by loud music from a nightclub (I think the one that is just across the street from the hotel). We finally turned on our room's AC unit to drown out the noise. For what the Marquis charges, I would expect better soundproofing from the rooms. One minor complaint is that the hotel advertises Wi-Fi internet access, but in reality you can only use it if you go to a public lounge space on a particular floor of the hotel.

"Great for summer; Awful for Winter stay"
By Anonymous on Thursday, January 24, 2008

Visitor Review
This is a waterfront hotel that would be absolutely perfect to stay in during summer and the warmer months. However, during winter, you are better off staying at one of the many charming B&Bs in Cape May. The doors and windows in our Marquis de Lafayette room were very drafty, rendering our room bitterly cold during our overnight stay.

"Comfortable, great location"
By Lochner of Delaware on Wednesday, January 02, 2008

Visitor Review
The hotel is primarily a summer resort hotel. The room was well furnished and spotlessly clean. All rooms face the beach and sea, just across the street and many. like this one have exterior walkways to their doors. It was not the management's fault that there was a near-gale blowing! The dining room was open for a buffet breakfast only, but that was very good. The staff were polite and competent. I would happily stay here again, especially in the off season, as most of the other hotels in town are closed, and these people really seem to wannt to please their off-season customers.

My husband & i just spent a wintery weekend in cape may & very much enjoyed our stay at the lafayette. The front desk clerk was helpful and friendly and our room immaculate. We were right across the street from the beach, with a furnished balcony looking out at the sea. Our bed was one of the most comfortable i've ever experienced in a hotel and i travel a lot!! For 99$ a night, we were given breakfast vouchers for a full hot meal in the restaurant, and parking right out front. I loved the white wicker furniture, which was comfortable and gave the room a light, airy appearance. The only problem we encountered was at breakfast in the restaurant (which is not owned/operated by the lafayette hotel). I didn't get the meal i'd requested & the waiter actually argued with me about my order! Despite that experience, i would highly recommend the lafayette. It's charming and comfortable and conveniently located to all cape may has to offer. Cape may has a huge collection of original victorian homes and you'll be amazed at the width and breadth of them. Walk along the shore & glance back at the avenue lined with stately, massive victorian homes & you'll swear it's 1880.

A Pleasant Stay

My wife and I stayed at this hotel in january and had a very nice stay. The weather was great for a winter weekend and that made it nice to enjoy the balcony. Our room was very nice and comfortable. Having an ocean view, free breakfast and nice size room for the pirce was in our opinion a great value. The staff were friendly, espically the gentleman who helped with our bags. I would highly recommend this place for a winter/fall getaway. It is probably nice in the summer, I just have never stayed then so I can't comment.

Great Location, But
By Anonymous on Tuesday, June 06, 2006

Visitor Review
The hotel offers a comfortable room with basic accommodations. I particularly enjoyed the balcony so that we could watch the ocean and the birds. However, the location, while centrally located, can be very noisy. Further, the management is heavy-handed with veiled threats about the room inventory. At check-in, I had to sign a statement saying I wouldn't steal anything. In the room, there is a list with prices of every item in the room which is supposedly inventoried after every guest's departure. I found that a bit offensive.

The ocean views and rocking chairs on the balconies are a real plus. The buffet breakfast which is included in the rates is substantial and of good quality. The staff is generally knowledgeable and friendy except a new person at the front desk who had real difficulty splitting the bill for two seperate rooms that was originally placed on a single credit card.
