It really bothers me that some people criticize the owners of this hotel. It is a wonderful establishment and it is correct that they have rules against smokingone. As far as cork screws not being in the room, cape may is not a party town. If you want to drink, go to wildwood. I think it is hard to keep a happy medium between being a concerned host and a little controlling .mr. Weiner always honored my birding weekends and even gave me advice for a room when he was booked. I feel very safe there even if I was traveling alone. The breakfast is excellent for cold food.

I stayed at avondale by the sea on a weekend at the end of june. In summary, the location is excellent (directly across the street from the beach). Otherwise, this is simply an average place.

Spent 3 nights at the avondale with our 2 1/2 month son - our first vacation with him. It was perfect. They provided the pack-in-play and the diaper pail. The two-room suite gave us space for the baby to sleep in one room while we could stay up later in the other room. The inn's proximity to the beach, shops, and restaurants made strolling with a baby carriage the best way to get around. We'd definitely return there on a future visit.

Had a mini reunion with family. The hotel accomodated us perfectly with rooms next to one another. Cleanest beach hotel I have ever stayed at. Perfect getaway. Location is the best. Close to washington street mall and restaurants. Will stay there again.

I hate to say this about my beloved avondale. We stayed there this july as we do every year, but this year we requested a first floor room. The hotel has no elevators and my husband has gotten tired of lugging suitcases, sand chairs, coolers, etc to the rooms on the second and third floor. When we opened the door to our room , 105 i believe, it stunk! Mildew, yuk! It was overwhelming. The ac didn't help it and opening the windows didn't help. I complained and asked for another room, but there were none available. If i had been by myself, i would have left, but my sister and mother were in the room next to us. Their room (106) did not smell bad at all. The owners said the problem is in the wicker furniture and they are planning to replace it at the end of the season. Apparently, the problem is only in the first floor rooms because they are on concrete floors that absorb moisture. If i were the owners, i would have removed the headboards at the beginning of the season to avoid all the complaints the other guest were also giving.
